Shanghai Eagles (in red) face off against Jiangsu Huge Horse in action.
Located off the coast of Fujian Province and emerging as one of China's leading baseball destinations, Pingtan hosted the 2026 China Baseball League finals on May 31. The championship series ended with Shanghai Eagles defeating Jiangsu Huge Horse 2-0 in the best-of-three final to secure the league title.
The opening game saw a closely contested battle between the two sides, with Shanghai edging Jiangsu 5-4 to take an early series lead. In Game 2, Shanghai maintained its momentum and cruised to a 12-2 victory, completing a two-game sweep and sealing the championship.
"We're extremely excited," Shanghai player Li Ning said after the win. "I'd like to thank all of our players and staff. Everyone performed at their best and played with confidence and composure."
Yang Siwei, a competition official with the Chinese Baseball Association, praised Pingtan's facilities and event-hosting expertise.
"Pingtan hosted the National Baseball Championship last year and the Asian Baseball Championship in September, so the facilities are already well established and capable of hosting the highest level of competition," Yang said. "The event organizers here are highly professional. Both the venue operations and logistical support have been excellent. Players and fans enjoy being here, and they can also explore Pingtan's scenic attractions during their time off."
The tournament further strengthened Pingtan's reputation as a growing baseball hub and laid the groundwork for hosting top-level competitions in the future.
